This site grew out of a book, *The Unknown Believer*, and out of a simple conviction that the people who find their way here deserve something honest and steady. Many of them met Jesus somewhere they never expected, far from any building with a steeple, and then went looking for the ground they would feel comfortable standing on. If that is your story too, you already understand the people we are writing for. You may be exactly the person we have been hoping would come along.
This is a small and growing work, and there is far more to do than one person can manage. If you sense that your gifts might belong here, we would love to hear from you. What follows is an honest picture of the ways people are helping at the moment, and where a willing pair of hands could make a real difference.
For writers and creatives
Much of what happens here comes down to words. There is always something being worked on, whether it is a new page, a fresh way of opening up a difficult passage, or a short piece written to meet someone in a moment of doubt. We care a great deal about getting the tone right. Our readers are often new to the Bible and wary of anything that talks down to them, so we write warmly and plainly, and we never pretend the hard questions are not there.
If you write, edit, or shape ideas, whether for a living or simply for the love of it, there is room for you. The same is true if your gift is visual rather than verbal. We need people who think about how a page feels as much as what it says, who understand that someone finding their faith online deserves something considered and beautiful rather than an afterthought. Whatever your craft, if you can help us tell the truth gently and well, please get in touch.
For those who can help with translation
The encounters that bring people to faith do not respect borders, and neither should the help offered afterward. Some of these pages have already been translated, and there is a longing to reach further. This is delicate work. A translation can be technically correct and still lose the heart of what was meant, or quietly carry in shades of meaning that were never intended. We have learned that the hard way and we take it seriously.
What is needed most are people who can edit and refine a translation rather than simply produce one. If you are fluent in another language and you also have a feel for Scripture and for tone, you could spare a reader somewhere a great deal of confusion. You would be helping to make sure that the words reaching them are faithful, clear, and free of meanings we did not put there.
For those who pray
Let us be plain about something. None of this works without prayer, and prayer is not the polite thing mentioned at the end. It is the foundation. We pray for the people who read these pages, many of whom are finding their way without much around them, and still making sense of what has happened to them. We pray for the few behind the site. We pray for the work itself.
If you would quietly pray for what happens here, you do not need any particular skill or platform. You need only a willingness to bring this before God with some regularity. We will share what we can about what is needed, while always guarding the privacy of those involved. It may be the most important thing on this page.
For those who keep things running
Behind every page that goes live there is a good deal of ordinary, unglamorous work, and it matters enormously. There are messages to answer, records to keep, lists to tidy, and a hundred small tasks that free the rest of us to do what we do. If you are the sort of person who finds genuine satisfaction in order, in things being done properly and on time, you would be a real gift.
This kind of help can often be offered from anywhere, in whatever pockets of time you have. You do not need to be visible to be valuable. Much of the steadiest help is the kind that no one ever sees.
A few honest words before you write
This is not a large organisation with deep pockets, and there is no point pretending otherwise. Almost everything that happens here happens because people give their time freely, as an offering. We will always be straight with you about what we can and cannot do, and we would far rather have a few people who understand that than make promises we cannot keep.
We also care about who we work alongside. We hope you will read that as a sign that we take the work, and you, seriously.
How to reach us
If anything here has stirred something in you, please write and tell us a little about yourself, what you might like to help with, and what drew you to this in the first place. There is no perfect way to say it. We simply want to hear from you.
You met Jesus once, perhaps in a way you are still learning to put into words. Now you could help someone else make sense of the One they have met. We would be glad to walk that road with you.
