You sensed a Father's love calling you home. This is His story. The Father who has been calling His children home since the very beginning, long before you had a name for what you were feeling.
The Father's love is not distant or abstract. It's not a concept you have to work out in your head. He speaks. He calls. He gathers His children close, the way you'd pull someone in from the cold.
Throughout history, people have encountered the Father and been forever changed by His voice, His presence, and His overwhelming love.
The Voice That Calls You by Name
God the Father has spoken directly to His people throughout history. His voice is personal, purposeful, and unmistakable.
In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve heard the Lord walking with them in the cool of the day, and He spoke with them face to face. Genesis 3:8-9
The Father called to Abraham and told him to leave his country, his people, and his father's household, for a land He hadn't even shown him yet. Abraham obeyed a voice, not a plan, and it changed the course of human history. Genesis 12:1
Moses had perhaps the most intimate encounters with the Father of anyone in Scripture. God spoke to him from a burning bush that wouldn't burn out, revealing His eternal, self-existent name. Exodus 3:14
Later, the Lord spoke with Moses face to face, the way you'd speak to a friend, not a stranger you were trying to impress. Exodus 33:11
When Moses asked to see God's glory, the Father didn't show him a spectacle. He proclaimed His own name and character instead:
"The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in faithfulness and truth." Exodus 34:6 (NASB 2020)
The Voice Still Speaks Today
The Father's voice was heard again at Jesus' baptism, declaring from heaven that this was His beloved Son. Matthew 3:17
It was heard again on the Mount of Transfiguration, telling the disciples, plainly, to listen to Him. Matthew 17:5
And even in Jesus' final days, when Jesus asked the Father to glorify His name, a voice answered Him from heaven, in front of everyone standing there. John 12:28
The same voice that spoke to Adam in the garden, that called Abraham to a country he'd never seen, that named Jesus as His beloved Son. That voice still speaks today. It still knows your name.
What the Father's Voice Sounds Like
You might be wondering: how do I recognise the Father's voice?
His voice often comes as a deep knowing in your spirit. A sense of being called home before you've even worked out what home means. It's the voice that says, "You belong to Me. You are Mine." It carries authority but also tenderness. It convicts without condemning. It calls you higher without crushing you with shame.
The Father's voice might come through Scripture that suddenly feels personal, like it was written for you specifically, that morning, for that exact situation. It might come through circumstances that align too perfectly to be coincidence. It might come through other believers who speak a truth you never told anyone you needed to hear. Or it might come in the quiet of prayer, that still small voice that settles deep in your soul when everything else has gone quiet too.
You'll know it's Him because His voice always aligns with His character: loving, truthful, patient, and redemptive. He never contradicts Scripture. He never drives you to fear or condemnation. He always calls you towards love, holiness, and closer relationship with Him.
The Presence That Overwhelms
God's presence has been manifested in visible, tangible ways throughout Scripture.

When Moses led Israel out of Egypt, the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, and by night in a pillar of fire. Exodus 13:21
When the tabernacle was completed, the cloud covered it and the glory of the Lord filled it so powerfully that Moses couldn't even get through the door. Exodus 40:34-35
At the dedication of Solomon's temple, that same glory filled the house so completely the priests couldn't stand up to do their jobs. 1 Kings 8:10-11
The weight of God's presence was so real, so overwhelming, that no one in the room could stay standing in it.
Isaiah encountered the Father in the temple and saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and lifted up, His robe alone filling the whole room, while the seraphim cried out that the entire earth was full of His glory. And the temple shook at the sound of their voices. Isaiah 6:1-4
Isaiah's response wasn't awe exactly. It was closer to panic. For the first time, he saw himself clearly, undone in the presence of that much holiness. Isaiah 6:5
When the Father's Presence Draws Near Today
You might not see a pillar of cloud or fire, but the Father's presence is just as real today. Some people describe it as a weight in the room, a sense of being surrounded by love so pure it brings them to tears without warning. Others feel an overwhelming awareness of His holiness that makes them acutely aware of their own brokenness, and somehow, in the same breath, aware of His grace.
His presence often comes during worship, when you're singing and suddenly you're not just singing words anymore. You are communing with Someone who is actually there, in the room, not somewhere far off. Or during prayer, when time seems to stop and you become aware you're not alone, even though no one else is physically there.
Sometimes His presence comes unexpectedly: in nature, when creation suddenly feels like it's declaring its Creator's glory directly to you and no one else. In silence, when you're simply sitting still and you sense Him drawing near. In a room full of people, when there's a tangible sense that God has walked in.
The Father's presence changes you. It comforts the broken-hearted. It convicts the rebellious. It strengthens the weary. It brings clarity to the confused. Whatever you need, His presence provides it.
Dreams and Visions from the Father
The Father has used dreams to speak to His people throughout history, long before anyone wrote a book trying to explain why.
He gave Joseph dreams that revealed his future, years before any of it made sense to him. Genesis 37:5-10
He spoke to Jacob in a dream at Bethel, showing him a ladder reaching to heaven with angels going up and down it, and promised to be with him and watch over him wherever he went. Genesis 28:12-15
God warned Abimelech in a dream not to touch Sarah, Abraham's wife. Genesis 20:3
He gave Pharaoh dreams that Joseph interpreted, saving two nations from a famine neither of them saw coming. Genesis 41:1-36
The Father spoke to Solomon in a dream, offering him whatever he desired. When Solomon asked for wisdom instead of wealth or long life, God was pleased and granted it. 1 Kings 3:5-15

The Father Guides Through Dreams Today
In the New Testament, the Father kept guiding through dreams. Nothing had changed about how He worked, only the timing.
He warned Joseph in a dream to take Mary as his wife, Matthew 1:20 then warned him again, urgently this time, to flee to Egypt to protect the infant Jesus, Matthew 2:13 and later told him when it was finally safe to go home. Matthew 2:19-20
He warned the wise men in a dream not to go back to Herod, Matthew 2:12 and warned Pilate's wife in a dream about Jesus' innocence, in the middle of the trial, while there was still time for it to matter. Matthew 27:19
If the Father spoke to you in a dream, you're in good company. He's been speaking this way since the beginning, reaching hearts that are searching, revealing truth to those who need guidance, and calling people into relationship with Him.
What Does It Mean That You Encountered the Father?
When you encounter the Father, you encounter the source of all love. Not a source among others, the source. You meet the One who created you, who knows every detail of your life down to the ones you've never told anyone, who has always been pursuing you, even on the days you didn't believe in Him at all.
The Father is the one who planned your salvation. He's the one who sent Jesus to die for you. And He's the one who draws you to Himself in the first place. The very thing we explored on the page before this one.
When the Father speaks to you or reveals His presence to you, He's saying one thing, over and over, in every possible way: you are Mine. You belong in My family. I want relationship with you.
Your Response to the Father
How do you respond to encountering the Father?
You come to Him as you are. Not cleaned up first. Not once you've figured everything out. Just as you are, mid-mess, mid-question.
You call Him “Abba”… Papa, Daddy, whatever word you used for the person who was supposed to keep you safe.
"For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons and daughters by which we cry out, 'Abba! Father!'"

You trust Him. Not because everything makes sense, but because He is good, His plans for you are good, plans to give you a future and a hope, and not to harm you. Jeremiah 29:11
You build the relationship the same way you'd build any other one that mattered: through prayer, through reading His Word, through worship, through obedience. You learn to recognise His voice the way you'd learn to recognise anyone’s. Over time, through repetition, through getting it wrong sometimes. You rest in His love.
The Father Is Waiting
From Eden to Sinai to the Jordan River, the Father's voice has always been personal, direct, and full of purpose. He speaks still. Will you listen?
The Father is waiting for you with open arms. He is not angry. He is not disappointed, not in the way you might expect a father to be. He is filled with love… eager to welcome you, eager to speak to you, eager to show you the path He has already prepared, whether or not you feel ready for it.
You are His beloved child. Let that truth transform everything.
